WAILUA — The breakfast was not so much to name the Pastor of the Year, but, rather, to honor and show appreciation for all ministers on Kaua’i.
Lyn Garcia and Leah Ragsac of the Fifth Gospel Christian Bookstore got help from their business banker Jennifer “Gigi” Sandrowski of Bank of Hawaii and, through the generosity of leaders of numerous community organizations and businesses, were able to honor the Rev. Jesse G. Layaoen of the New Hope Kilauea church as the first Kaua’i Pastor of the Year.
Close to three dozen pastors and ministers from all parts of the island gathered at the Wailua Family Restaurant, located across the street from the bookstore, to enjoy some time with each other, as well as applaud the newly-named Pastor of the Year.
“This is a time to totally bless the pastors,” said Mark Randolph in leading the closing prayer.
The organizers of the first-ever event to honor the ministry were pleased with the turnout, they said.
Ragsac explained that people could nominate their pastors, and the selection of the Pastor of the Year was done through a drawing process.
“A lot of people nominated their ministers,” Ragsac said. “And, many of them attached long letters on why their minister is so special. This was really good.”
The Fifth Gospel Christian Bookstore started in a Harbor Mall location on Rice Street in Nawiliwili in October 2001, and is currently located next to the Hong Kong Cafe in Wailua.
