The Rainbow Wahine came out firing in their WAC road opener, as Arnott scored four of UH’s first six points, pushing Hawai`i to a 6-1 lead. They continued to dominate the first game as a huge 9-1 run extended their edge to 21-8. Hittle started to get into the act late in the game, putting away four of the last five points for UH, including the game winner, giving the ‘Bows the 30-14 game one victory. Hawai`i hit .486 with 21 kills in the game to LTU’s .026 with seven kills.
Hawai`i again got out early on the Lady Techsters in game two, holding a 9-3 advantage. A six-point run by the Rainbow Wahine pushed it to 15-4. Louisiana Tech had a small comeback, cutting it to 20-13. But UH would not be stopped, running off five of the last six points in the second game, as a kill by Mason ended it 30-18.
Louisiana Tech put up a good fight in the third. It stayed tight with UH holding a slight 17-16 edge before Louisiana Tech ran off six straight points to go up 22-17. Hawai`i whittled away at it before a big 4-0 run tied the score at 27. UH had three match-points before Mason put away consecutive kills to take it for the Rainbow Wahine 33-31.
The Rainbow Wahine will next head to Las Cruces, N.M., to face New Mexico State on Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. (4 p.m. HST).
