Lawrence Kahaku Asing, Jr.
Lawrence “Uncle Larry” Kahaku Asing, Jr. of Waimanalo, died on Sept 24, 2005, at the age of 71.
Born May 5, 1934, in Honolulu, he was a retired telephone repairman, and a local entertainer.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Asing; son, Lawrence Kahaku Asing III, of Hanalei, and daughters, Sharen Kaiwi of Mililani; Haunani Marston of Kilauea and Rene Schofield of Pahoa; brothers, Patrick Asing of Waimea, Darryl Asing, of San Jose, Calif., and sisters, Judy Mariano of Kent, Wash. and Barbara Lopes-Young of Renton, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel of the Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus, Honolulu. Private scattering of ashes.
Antonio ‘Tony’ Ponce
Antonio “Tony” Rosco Ponce died at his home in Kapa’a on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at the age of 76.
Born in Kapa’a on Feb. 14, 1928, he was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Cresencia Ponce, and by his brothers, Malvino and Ernest Ponce.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret K. Ponce; daughter Cynthia (Ken) of Honolulu; sons: Kenneth (Marielle) of Kapa’a, Anthony (Deb-bee) of Honolulu, Marvyn (Deb-bie) of Kapa’a, and Davin (Julie) of Kapa’a; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Albao of California and Lauretta Pesquira of O’ahu, brother: Richard (Miki) Ponce of California, nieces, nephews, his “Hulihuli Gang” and many friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa’a. Services will start at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Kealia.
Calvin Philbert Medeiros
Calvin Philbert Medeiros of Tracy, Calif., died Sept. 9, 2005, at home at the age of 58.
Born May 28, 1947, in Lihu’e, he was an auto detailer.
Preceded in death by his mother, Alice Jerves Medeiros, he is survived by two daughters: Alyssa (Bryan) Dato of Kapa’a and Cherina Medeiros of Lihu’e; three sons: Donald Collins of Manteca, Calif, Joe Marquez of Coral, MI, and Calvin Jesse Medeiros of Lodi, Calif.; father: Manuel Medeiros of Hanama’ulu; brother: Rodney Medeiros; 12 grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, friend and acquaintances.
A celebration of his life will be held at noon on Oct. 8, at Lydgate Park near Kamalani Playground. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
