Even with just a week under his belt, James D. Hasenyager is comfortable and confident he has what it takes to help A&B Properties (Alexander & Baldwin, Inc.) leaders realize their goals for Kaua’i development projects.
Hasenyager has joined A&B as project manager for development on Kaua’i. His responsibilities include all aspects of managing the development of real-estate projects, from planning and approvals, to design and construction, and ultimately marking and sales.
“A&B has a fairly manageable approach to development. With my background in construction and management, I feel the position is well-suited to my skills,” he said.
Some of the initial projects Hasenyager will be involved in include the Port Allen residential and commercial projects, the ‘Ele’ele expansion project, and the Brydeswood subdivision expansion. In this position, he reports to Paul Hallin, A&B Properties senior vice president for development.
Hasenyager has more than 24 years of project-management and construction-engineering experience.
He said he sees his biggest challenge being “to best use A&B’s assets on Kaua’i to benefit the community.”
Hasenyager said Kaua’i has some areas for development, which include residential, agricultural and commercial developments.
Hasenyager said he had no specific knowledge of any affordable housing projects in the near future, and also said he was not aware of any A&B activity on the North Shore.
Prior to joining A&B, Hasenyager was Kaua’i general manager with CB Richard Ellis Hawaii, Inc., where he managed Kukui Grove Center, Kukui Grove Commercial Village, Kukui Grove Village West commercial and light-industrial subdivision, as well as the Lihue Land Company and Grove Farm residential rentals and agricultural land leases.
He held property- and project-management positions with PK Partners, a real estate development and property-management firm in Indiana; Graham Murata Russell in Honolulu; and General Growth Management in Honolulu.
Hansenyager holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
“A&B has an increasing number of projects that will bring new residential and commercial opportunities for Kaua’i residents,” said Hallin. “As A&B breaks ground for its Port Allen residential projects, James’ experience in property and construction management will be an excellent addition to our team,” said Hallin.
A&B Properties, Inc., www.abprop.com, is the realestate subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., a diverse corporation with headquarters in Honolulu. A&B leaders own 91,000 acres in Hawai’i, making it the state’s fourth-largest private landowner.
Kaua’i subsidiaries include Kauai Coffee Company, Kauai Commercial Company, Matson Navigation Company, A&B Properties, and others. The ongoing Kukui’Ula resort development on the South Shore is the company’s largest development project on Kaua’i at the present.
