A great big BRAVO to Arnold Leong for his great letter to the Editor of 9/12—”More bike path questions.”
Since Mr. Leong was one of our Deputy County engineers, it is obvious that he is privy to a lot more of what goes on with this county (particularly Public Works!) than we ordinary citizens.
He raises three hot button issues that have been controversial since they came on the radar screen a long time ago. The “White Elephant” bike path, the “resource” buy-back center, and the Metals Recycling facility in Puhi. Tax payers have been greatly subsidizing the resource center and the metals recycling facility ($500 thousand a year for that operation!!!) and this bike path, as Mr. Leong says, will cost a staggering amount of money to build and maintain —our money whether it is local or federal!
With your inside information, Mr. Leong, along with your questions, answers and observations it is truly regrettable that you are no longer working for the County AND most importantly, working for the best interests of the people. Of course citizens like you who would dare question the methodology by which decisions are made—particularly WRONG decisions—are just not welcome in this government.
Mahalo again for your truly refreshing article.
