Singh replaces Goosen at PGA Grand Slam

It wasn’t certain from the start that Retief Goosen would be making his second straight PGA Grand Slam of Golf appearance and yesterday the almost expected announcment was made by PGA officials.
Another participant from last year, Vijay Singh, will take the place of Goosen on the four-person field.
Joining Singh at the Po’ipu Bay Golf Course are Masters and British Open champion Tiger Woods, U.S. Open champion Michael Campbell, and PGA champion Phil Mickelson in the year’s showdown of major winners.
Singh finished second on the major champions points list. Goosen isn’t able to compete due to scheduling conflicts. The two-day shootout starts on November 22 in Po’ipu.
Also, because the 23rd PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Poipu Bay Golf Course & Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Hawai’i will be televised to a live, prime time audience on TNT, the starting times will be pushed to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, and Wednesday, Nov. 23. Play is scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m. each day.
Monday, Nov 21 – Pro-Am
Champions Clinic starts at 9:00 a.m. Hawai’i time
Pro-Am starts 10:30 a.m. and finishes 4:00 p.m. Hawai’i time
Tuesday, Nov 22 – First Round
Play starts 12 p.m. and finishes 5:00 p.m. Hawai’i time
Television: TNT, 6 p.m. — 10 p.m. EST
Wednesday, Nov 23 – Final Round
Play starts 12 p.m. and finishes 5 p.m.
Television: TNT, 7 p.m. — 10 p.m. EST
Tickets to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf are available to purchase at (800) PGA-TCKT (742-8258), or online at www.PGA.com. Season Tickets at $40.00 each provide access to all three days. The Monday Pro-Am Ticket is $10, and the competition day tickets (Tuesday and Wednesday) are $20 each day. Hawai’i state residents can purchase season grounds tickets for $20 if purchased before November 1.
Lihu’e baseball meeting
There will be a general membership and election meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 5 p.m. at the Lihu’e County Park (main diamond field) for the Lihu’e Baseball League. This meeting will involve organization updates, and for anyone who is interested in being part of the organization.

Back to school, back to the course
The Kaua’i Jr. Golf Association held its annual “Back to School” tournament from Aug. 27-28 at the Po’ipu Bay G.C.
The winners included Trevor Kua, Dylan Balisacan, Jon Furusho, Darren Valencia, Kaiton Sawada, Noa Matsuyoshi, Kelli Oride, Skylar Schone, Cory Oride, Wiley Yoshioka, and Sean “Got the Power” Ogawa.
