LIHU‘E — Make it three for California and zero for Kaua‘i, as Bonita Vista trounced Kapa‘a, 37-0 last night at Vidinha Stadium, in the last KIF preseason game.
On Friday, West Hills dismantled the two-time defending KIF champion Red Raider squad, 41-13 and later that night, Valley Center nailed Waimea, 45-7 at Hanapepe Stadium.
From the start, the Warriors were overmatched and oversized by the California squad.
The Barons jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead, thanks to runningback Ramses Ramirez, who scampered for two scores, one for five yards, and another for eight yards. Bonita Vista kicker Bryan Shields converted one of two PAT attempts.
Early in the second quarter, the Barons continued to surge ahead, as Ace Morales flipped a 2-yard TD throw to Pierce Hunter for the 20-0 advantage, after Hunter’s PAT. Shields’ leg remained hot three minutes later by booting a 39-yard field goal.
Bonita Vista’s Beto Padilla came up big late in the second quarter on defense with a 30 yard fumble recovery touchdown. Shields converted once again on the PAT, which gave the Barons a 30-0 lead at the half.
The Warriors buckled down in the second final half, highlighted by a stingy defensive effort, led by senior Matt Roman and Nathaniel Langi.
The Barons could only muster up one final score in the game, which came in the third quarter on Ramirez’ third TD of the contest, this time on a 20-yard score.
