But it was Kaua‘i who shot themselves in the foot throughout the preseason contest at Vidinha Stadium.
Red Raider head coach Keli‘i Morgado, who is still searching for that leading man at quarterback, got one more chance to see his prospects in action.
West Hills flourished from the start, tacking on three first quarter touchdowns on its way to a 20-0 lead.
E.J. Brown connected with quarterback Phillip Staback for a six-yard touchdown with just under seven minutes to go in the first stanza.
Trevor Kolocheski rumbled 65 yards for the second score and Ryan Sevier’s 2-point score gave the wolfpack the 14-0 advantage.
Another Sevier, this time Ryan, got on the scoreboard via a 14 yard TD run, but the PAT failed and West Hills led, 27-0 at the half.
The second half started out just like the first, as E.J. Brown took a kickoff return 85 yards for his second score of the contest. Staback’s PAT increased the score in favor of West Hills, 34-0
The Wolfpack punched in another score with just under four minutes to go in the third quarter, as Staback hooked up with Ryan Sevier for a 21 yard touchdown connection. Jon Wick put up the successful PAT for the 41-0 lead.
Kaua‘i’s only offensive bright spot came with about seven minutes to on the clock in the final period.
Brendan Young put on the jets for a 70 yard TD run, which gave the Kaua‘i contingent something to cheer about. Kainoa Lemke booted the PAT for the 41-7 score.
Micah “Da Machine” Alayvilla, a steady runner from last year’s undefeated KIF champion Red Raider JV squad, swooped in for the final score of the game, with a 2 yard TD run, which made the final tallly in favor of West Hills, 41-13.
