Two men will be honored at the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League’s annual Jamboree on Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The season wil be dedicated to former league commissioner Leon Gonsalves Sr. and former Hanapepe coach, the late Glen Gaspar.
The two will be honored for their many years of service to Pop Warner on Kaua‘i.
This year’s president is Mel Rapozo and his staff includes Sean Andrade as vice-president, Jane Garma as secretary, Susan Oshiro as treasurer, and Paul Pancho as league manager.
The KPWFL is still looking for a league commissioner and a cheer coordinator.
Anyone interested in these two positions should contact Pancho at 639-0720.
Pancho stepped in this year, taking over for Gonsalves, who opted out of the position to tend to his health.
“After seeing the deterioration of the program and the hard work all for naught by losing regional playoff berths for two years in a row, I decided to lend a hand,” Pancho said.
Pancho and Andrade has been going around the island certifying players by checking their weights and getting the necessary paperwork done.
Also this year, the pee wee regionals will be held at Hanapepe Stadium.
Last year, there was a drop in the pee wee division (9-12), with no Kekaha or Hanapepe squads.
“I’m not too sure why, but they might be too heavy for junior pee wees but underweight for midgets as well,” Pancho noted.
Hanapepe won’t field a pee wee team once again this year. The 2005-06 Jamboree parade should start around 10 a.m. at Hanapepe Stadium. For more information, contact Fran Johnson at 652-3187.
