A female was found floating face down at around 11:30 a.m. about 20 yards from shore, fronting the Princeville Resort (hotel), according to county officials.
The victim was identified as 72-year-old Princeville resident Jeannine Law.
Upon seeing the woman in the water, a couple of unidentified guests of Princeville Resort jumped in and pulled her out. They immediately applied CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), but Law was described as being blue in color and unresponsive.
When firefighters from the Hanalei station arrived on the scene, they continued CPR until paramedics arrived and determined that the victim could not be revived. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law is Kaua’i’s fifth drowning victim this year.
