WAIMEA — The search for the champion of the Waimea High School Volleyball Tournament will be settled starting at noon, today when the championship games serve up.
Games begin starting at 9 a.m. at the Clem Gomes Gym when the seventh and eighth places will be determined. Games start every hour with the championship game serving up at noon.
Following pool play, elimination rounds started Friday morning with Iolani Red topping the White Pool, and Hawai‘i Baptist topping the Blue Pool.
“We beat them (Iolani Red) on the first game,” a proud Kapa‘a parent noted following the Warriors’ loss to Iolani Red in the early goings of the elimination round.
That loss gave Iolani Red a 9-1 standing to lead the White Pool standings. Maryknoll, with former Kaua‘i High School coach Shawn Doo at their helm, finished with an 8-2 record, identical with Kapa‘a, for second and third place in the pool respectively.
Seabury Hall (6-4), Iolani White (4-6), and Kaua‘i White (0-10) round out the standings in the White Pool.
Kaua‘i Red spoiled the Hawai‘i Baptist record, handing them their only loss in the Blue Pool play, but both squads finished pool play with 9-1 records, but Kaua‘i being relegated to the second slot. Castle filled in the third slot at 7-3.
Waimea Blue, dropping two to Kaua‘i Red, finished with 4-6 for the No. 4 slot followed by Castle II and Waimea White each finishing pool play with 1-9 records.
The tournament got underway Thursday at the Clem Gomes Gym featuring all three of Kaua‘i’s high school teams as well as two teams from Iolani, two teams from Castle, Hawai‘i Baptist, Seabury Hall, and Maryknoll.
