KAPA‘A — Although the event isn’t on the Fourth of July, the fireworks will still light up the evening.
But instead of flaring up the sky, the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters will be heating up Kapa‘a’s gym, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
10 battles are on the card, with a youth exhibition kickboxing match starting things off.
“That’s my two kids fighting,” O‘ahu’s Girlie Kamaka said at the weigh-in yesterday at The Shack.
“I’m not too worried about them fighting, besides I really don’t want to hold them back from what they love to do,” Kamaka said.
After the youth kickboxing, the MMA fighting will start with a plethora of talent hitting the ring from all over the state.
Josiah, one of Kaua‘i’s most feared fighters, will face off against 808 Fight Factory’s Frankie De Jesus in a kickboxing match and the semimain event follows after a few more fights. Alternates, mostly from Kaua‘i might get a shot to showcase their talents.
“This is my first fight on Kaua‘i and I didn’t even tell my dad about it, but I’m excited to get in there,” Kaua‘i figther Adam Britto said.
Britto’s dad, also named Adam, is involved in various veterans organizations.
The main event features two skilled fighters in 808 Fight Factory’s Keli‘i Newalu and Frank Shamrock Academy’s Brian Badgerow.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door at Kapa‘a High School’s gym.
