BYU basketball coach completes hiring staff
PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young director of basketball operations Walter Roese was promoted Thursday to assistant coach, completing the staff of new coach Dave Rose.
Roese, a BYU-Hawaii graduate who played professionally in Brazil and Italy, joins assistant John Wardenburg and newly-hired Dave Rice on Rose’s staff. Rose was promoted after Steve Cleveland resigned to take over Fresno State.
Terry Nashif, a guard for the Cougars the last four seasons, was also named Thursday to replace Roese as director of basketball operations.
“Terry is the perfect fit for the operations position on our staff. He knows the players and he knows their needs academically and athletically,” Rose said in a statement.
WAC launches new website, new members
Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson announced yesterday that the WAC will launch a new official website on July 5.
The new site will continue to have the same address of WAC-Sports.com but will have an exciting look, interactive features, and more functionality.
On the technology side, the website will have more customization options and an improved navigation structure which will allow the WAC to differentiate its look and feel.
“The new website is just the first step in our new branding efforts,” WAC commissioner Karl Benson said. “The website is a valuable tool in communicating with our fans and member institutions and this new site will be more effective and consistent in delivering our message and vision.”
There will also be three new schools joining the WAC this season. New Mexico St., Idaho, and Idaho have become official members of the WAC.
They join Boise St., Fresno St., Hawai‘i, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, and San Jose St. to make the WAC a solid nine-school conference.
