LIHU‘E — Lihu‘e pitcher Jessica Iwata took over the reins in the third inning and quieted Kalawai bats, en route to the 4-3 win yesterday at Vidinha Stadium in Pony baseball playoff action.
The win gave Lihu‘e a spot in the championship game on June 26 at Vidinha Stadium.
Lihu‘e also has two chances to clinch the Pony title, without a loss in the double elimination tournament.
Meanwhile, the tough Kalawai Mets squad still has a chance to get to the championship game.
Paul Correa picked up the loss for the Mets and Reggie Vigilia came in for relief and pitched a few strong innings the rest of the way.
Kaylen Wakumoto started for Lihu‘e, but Kalawai tacked on two early runs for the lead and Iwata came in for relief.
Lihu‘e answered back and never looked back, as both teams buckled down on the mound.
Kalani Brackenridge and Egan Kouchi paced Lihu‘e’s bats with an RBI apiece.
For Kalawai, Vigilia and Tafiti led the way in the hitting department.
