Daniel Velasco of Lihu‘e and Suzanne Messinger of Hanalei crossed the finish line first for both the men’s and women’s divisions in the eight mile run of the Hanalei Canoe Club’s 25th Annual Ha‘ena to Hanalei Run/Walk, 5K Run, and One Mile Youth Run.
Velasco repeated as champion of the run with a time of 48:44. Messinger came in with a time of 55:30.
Kevin Searls (48:53) of Fremont, Calif. nailed down a close second-place triumph and Basil Scott of Kapa‘a was right behind Searls with a time of 49.35 in the men’s 8 mile run.
Tricia Milton (56:57) of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Kalaheo’s Pam Kruse (59:16) were the second and third place winners in the women’s 8 mile run.
Kekaha’s Scott Martin (17:44) outraced Hanalei’s Pierce Murphy (18:27) for the men’s 5K Run. Ian Stoddard (18:36) of Hibbing, Minnesota, finished right behind Martin and Murphy.
On the women’s side, Scott’s twin sister Rachel, distanced herself from the rest of pack for the 5K Run title. Princeville’s Michelle Jacobs (22:11) and Jannelle Allen (24:30) of Colorado took second and third place.
In the 8 mile walk, Wayne Patton of Kilauea (1:52.34) and Terri Halliday of Koloa (1:32.44) won the men’s and women’s races.
Dale Gibson (1:55.58) of Ventura, Calif. and Princeville’s John Burns (1:56.06) rounded out the men’s field.
Princeville’s Carolyn Wacker (1:43.36) and Linda Shadiow (1:48.01) of Arizona finished in second and third in the women’s contest.
Ka‘eo Kruse (5:39) of Kalaheo and Kapa‘a’s Sarah Faraola (5:06) won the 1 mile youth races.
Kekaha’s Casey Tangalin (6:16) and Princeville’s Tyler Barton (6:22) took the second and third place spots. Hanalei’s Victoria Terrazas (5:57) and Kilauea’s Brianne Pignoli (5:59) finished behind Faraola in the girls’ race.
