Hundreds of fans filled the bleachers at Isenberg Field, as the girls’ summer league softball season held their season openers. The 12-and-under and 18-and-under games saw Kapa’a visiting Lihu’e.
In the first game of the night, the 12 and under’s were a treat to see. No one cared who was winning, all you heard were cheers and applause each time someone crossed the plate or made an out. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all supported their players, who in turn played their hearts out.
No matter what happened, there were smiles on the girls’ faces, as they were happy to have the chance to play.
In the 18-and-under game it was a different story. Although the bleachers were not filled, there was still a good-sized crowd cheering on the players.
The game was a little more intense, as you could see in the players’ eyes that they came to play. In the end it didn’t really matter who won as both teams celebrated their own victory.
The night was a good experience for all players. Everyone was able to gain some playing time and make new friends.
At the end of the game no matter who won or lost, both teams congratulated each other on their superb play.
