Jeffrey Calves had a great day on the field, Sunday as the Hanamaulu Angels got past the Kekaha K-Town Boys, 5-2 as the season wound down.
Calves, who finished 2-3 in the batter’s box, pounded an in-the-park homerun to deep rightfield in the fifth inning to fuel the Angels’ drive. Calves, who started on the mound, was also credited with the win combining with Jordan Buster to hold Kekaha to just two runs.
Kekaha was still alive in the top of the seventh frame as Ashtin Igne got aboard on an Angel miscue, but was left stranded as Buster closed down the batter’s box.
Chris Ramos scored twice for the Angels with Darren Lapitan, Calves, and Kilika Dettloff notching runs in the win.
Max Agor and Justin Moriguchi crossed the plate for Kekaha.
Earlier in the day, Koloa handled Kapa‘a, 11-1 at Vidinha Stadium.
Following the game, Angels’ coach Peter Rayno explained that the Pony Baseball League (for youngsters 13-14 years old) play-offs begin on Wednesday, June 8 with locations and starting times to be determined at a Monday night meeting by coaches and league officials.
This meeting will determine the seeds and playoff schedule that will start Wednesday and continue for two weeks, culminating with the league championship.
