Boy oh boy. Here we go again with another set of very simplistic suggestions to some of Kaua‘i’s more complex issues.
The individual who suggested that we limit the number of vehicles on Kaua‘i and that should be “easy enough to enforce.” Are you serious? Telling tax-paying citizens that the only way you can bring a car to Kaua‘i is to wait till one leaves?!
Who or how the heck are you going to control that? Really! Even the suggestions about how to solve our “junk” car problem and penalizing or crediting maunufacturers, distributors or dealers of autombiles to reduce emissions or the volume of cars that come to Kaua‘i has absolutely no teeth. Creative idea no doubt. Yes Kaua‘i has a traffic problem, yes there are too many abandoned cars and yes we all need to be more environmentally aware.
These issues will take everyones participation (that’s a challange all in itself) and decades to manage. I honestly think that there is no one solution to “solve” any of these concerns. But we can eventually learn to effectively manage or to control to some degree the ever changing landscape as a whole.
