Tribute and honor were the common threads that bound graduation exercises for Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools that took place Friday evening in two separate locations.
At Vidinha Stadium where approximately 280 Kaua‘i High School seniors received their diplomas, special tables were set up housing portraits of two of their classmates who didn’t make it to Friday night’s ceremonies.
Entering seniors deposited lei and flowers in tribute to their classmates.
Over in Waimea, blue mylar streamers and blue and white balloons decorated the bridge as well as the utility poles, fences, and shops lining the main boulevard through town in celebration of the approximately 180 seniors from Waimea High School who were awarded their diplomas during Friday evening exercises on the school campus.
Guest speaker for the Kaua‘i High School exercises was William Kenoi, administrative assistant to the Mayor of Hawai‘i, while over at the Waimea campus, leaders of that program said they opted to forego having a guest speaker and instead place focus on their Class of 2005 outstanding students.
Among the dignitaries that attended the achievements of the high school seniors, Kaua‘i Mayor Bryan Baptiste was in attendance at the Kaua‘i High School celebration while over in Waimea, Kaua‘i Complex Superintendent Daniel Hamada took in the program.
Both schools participated in their own Project Graduation celebrations following the commencement exercises.
