KSA SOCCER CHAMPIONS UNVEILED

Nine age group championships emerged following a day of championship play at the Vidinha Stadium complex by the Kaua‘i Soccer Association (KSA) league.

The championship playoffs brought an end to the spring soccer season that has been meeting weekly, alternating between the North Vidinha fields, Isenberg Park, the Wailua Houselots Park, the New Kapa‘a Ball Park, and the Kapa‘a Beach Park.

The LSC-Hawaiian Heat blanked Tunda Girls, 3-0 to claim the Girls Under 8 title while their counterparts, the top seeded Kapa‘a Warriors got some spectator support from the vanquished Flaming Falcons as they edged LSC-Lihu‘e Heat, 1-0 for the BU8 crown.

Westside Rams managed a goal in their fight for the BU10 cup which was taken by the Lihu‘e Cougars in a 7-1 victory while the Motiv-8 Ha‘aheo nosed out the Tunda Girls II, 3-2 for the GU10 title.

KSC-East blanked the KSC-North, 2-0 for the GU18 title.

Motiv-8 boys in the BU12 shut out Westside United, 5-0 for that crown while girls in the GU12 gave spectators a great game as Motiv-8 Po‘okela managed to overcome a tough Chicks Who Rip Remix team, 3-2 for that title. The Motiv-8 in the Boys Under 14 nosed out Lihu‘e Ho‘oikaika, 3-2 for that championship while the KSC-East Girls Under 14 blanked Motiv-8 Tunda Girls, 3-0 for the final championship.

Scott Keopuhiwa, president of the Hawai‘i Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) flew in special to spend the day with “coach” Gwen Tamura, Keopuhiwa doing the honors of presenting the post-game awards throughout the day.

Lei, medals, and the feeling of sportsmanship made everyone champions that day – even those who failed to make the championships, but showed up to demonstrate their support.
