Kaua‘i High School scholar-athlete Kekoa Crowell was one of a dozen scholarship recipients at the 7th Annual recognition banquet hosted by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Hawai‘i Chapter 242.
Crowell, who demonstrated his athletic prowess as the signal caller for the Red Raider football team as well as being a strong part of the Kaua‘i High School boys basketball team, received a $1,000 scholarship for his achievements both in the athletic arena as well as academically.
Since the start of the recognition program in 1999, Crowell becomes the third Kaua‘i scholar-athlete to be recognized, the first two hailing from Waimea High School.
In 1999, the year the program started, Clesson Oligo was one of the award recipients, joined a year later by Menehune Benson Broyles.
Crowell was joined by other high school scholar-athletes including Spencer J. Hafoka of Kahuku, Michael Hanakahi, Jr., Word of Life Academy, Jared N. Ha‘o of Kealakehe, Ralph G. Ieru of McKinley, Aaron M. Kia of Mililani, Richard Kiesel-Kauhane of Aiea, Shawn S. Lauvao of Farrington, Jayson K. Rego, Jr. of Kamehameha Schools, Kevin P. Sullivan of St. Louis, Charles J. Tausaga of Aiea, and Viliami T.M. Tilini of Kahuku.
Crowell will be attending Orange Coast College in the southern California area where he intends to continue his athletic career.
Joining Crowell at the recognition banquet were his parents, Robert and Adrienne Crowell, his football coach Kelii Morgado, and the school’s athletic director Mrs. Charlene Quinones.
The banquet was held on May 1 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
