Wow, what a weekend of racquetball!
That was the reaction of those at the Kaua‘i Athletic Club recently after a whirlwind weekend which started from 3:00 p.m. Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday
In late April, 84 players came in from around the state, California and as far as Georgia to play in the 2nd Annual Garden Island Classic and Hawai‘i State Singles Racquetball Championships.
The tournament was dedicated to great racquetball player and friend: Jim Bartlett, who recently passed away on the mainland.
It was a weekend of non-stop playing showcasing the best of the best in seven divisions with 19 different events. In the end, Kaua‘i players did amazingly well with the high level of competition, placing in 24 spots.
Additionally, in the Juniors, the under-18 division, Kaua‘i juniors Blazen Jeffries, Tiffany Eliana and Mikal Moranz all played great and placed in both the singles and doubles events.
Hat’s off for another great tournament to Director Philip Eliana for organizing this event, organizers said, with help his from his committee members: Dean Agustin, Lauri Puni, Carlynn Ledward, Marlene-Natasha-Tiffany Eliana for running the tournament desk, Pastor Frank Puni for his opening blessing for safe play, and everyone else that made this event a success.
Organizers also thanked the Kaua‘i Athletic club staff for doing a Superb job with hosting this premier event.
A big mahalo also goes out to Bulla Eastman for bringing his Team 24-Hour Fitness down from O‘ahu and Keoki Ki’ili for bringing down his Team from Maui.
Since Philip, Bulla, and Keoki are also Team Ektelon-Hawai‘i-sponsored players, it made sure the tournament was filled with action-packed matches.
