Kawaihau took Kuku’s Aces in their tie-breaker game, giving Kawaihau three wins so far for the season to the Aces two wins.
Kawaihau was the first to score in the top of the first inning on two singles from Louis Victorino and Sherwood Iida.
The Aces came right back and scored five runs in the same inning off two walks, three errors and one base hit.
In the second inning, Kawaihau shortened the gap with two runs. Lead off batter Bob Herrmann hit a home run and Paul Gusman scored on a sacrifice fly from Gary Wardlow.
The Aces came back with a single run on two singles, one from Gordon Doo and one from Kaleo Furtado.
After two complete innings, Kuku’s Aces six, Kawaihau three.
In the top of the third inning, Kawaihau came up with two more runs on hits from Iida, Stephen Fujii and Jack Lucas.
In the bottom of the third, the Aces again widened the gap (9-5) with three runs on hits from Ben Pescador, Tada Hashimoto, Willie Allianac, Ale Lomosad, and Doo.
In the top of the fourth, Kawaihau scored five runs to pass the Aces. A run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh gave Kawaihau a total of 14 runs. The Aces could not score after the third inning.
Hitters for Kawaihau were: Wardlow and Lucas with 2 for 4, Calvin Fujita with 2 for 3, Hermann with 3 for 3, a home run and four RBI’s, Iida with 3 for 4, and Fujii with 3 for 5. The winning pitcher was Tets Tamashiro.
Hitters for Kuku’s Aces were: Doo and Hashimoto with 2 for 3, Furtado and Pescador with 2 for 4. The losing pitcher was Stanley Rita.
East Kaua‘i 18, Kuku’s Aces 8
Damien Victorino and Donald Boro scored East Kaua‘i’s first two runs in the top of the first inning on hits from Boro, Alex Youn and Rick Ramones.
In the second inning, five runs crossed the plate for East Kaua‘i on hits from Al Salvador, Norman Holt, Ned Nightowl, a home run from Victorino to go along with three RBIs. In the third, Alex Youn hit a solo HR for run number seven.
In the fourth, both Salvador and Ernest Koerte came in for runs eight and nine on hits from Salvador, Ernest Koerte, Norman Holt and Victorino. A single run was scored in the sixth inning on hits from Salvador, Norman Holt and Nightowl.
The seventh was East Kaua‘i’s big inning, scoring seven runs on hits from Ron Javier, Salvador, Javier, Boro, Youn, Jerome Hew, Ronnie Holt and a three run homer from Ramones. Hitters were: Victorino and Nightowl for 2 for 4, Youn and Norman Holt with 3 for 4, and Salvador with 4 for 4. The winning pitcher was Ronnie Holt.
The Aces scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on four East Kaua‘i errors and a base hit from Pancho DeCosta.
In the third, Gordon Doo scored run number four on a base hit from Sol Reyes.
In the fifth inning, Kaleo Furtado, Reyes, DeCosta, Ben Pescador and Sonny Hoopii all had base hits and came up with three Aces runs, pushing their total to seven.
The sixth inning saw the final run on a hit from DeCosta. Hitters were: Doo and Reyes with 2 for 4, DeCosta with 3 for 4. The losing pitcher was Tada Hashimoto.
Rookies 12, West Kaua‘i 5
In the top of the first inning, Frank Bukoski drew a walk and scored on a sacrifice fly from Joe Tafua for the only run for West Kaua‘i in that inning.
West Kaua‘i scored two additional runs in the third inning on a base hits from Tafua, Maxie Moreno, Pat Pavao and John Patt.
The final two West Kaua‘i runs came in the fifth inning. With one out, Richard Carveiro knocked a single and came around to score.
Hitters were: Bukoski and Pavao with 2 for 3, Moreno with 3 for 3. Losing pitcher was Junior Rivera.
The Rookies came up with four runs in the first inning on hits from Walter Souza, Hank Nishikawa, Mike Folster, Archie Fontanilla, Ray Espino and Richard Vidinha.
In the second inning, with one runner on, Walter Souza hit a home run scoring two, followed by Nishikawa, Stan Dela Cruz, Fontanilla and Espino with base hits to bring the Rookies score to nine.
The last three Rookies runs came in the fourth inning when Souza got on with a West Kaua‘i error, followed with hits from Nishikawa, Dela Cruz, Fontanilla, Wayne Hashimoto and a sacrifice fly from Espino. Hitters for the Rookies were: Vidinha and Espino with 2 for 3 plus three RBI’s for Espino, Dela Cruz and Folster with 2 for 4, Souza and Fontanilla with 3 for 4 with three RBI’s for Fontanilla, and Nishikawa with 4 for 4. The winning pitcher was Fontanilla.
K-Makule 15, Lihu‘e A’s 9
K-Makule pulled off the win against the Lihu‘e A’s by fielding just nine players instead of ten due to players on the injury list for K-Makule.
In the top of the first inning K-Makule scored four runs.
Eddie Dela Cruz hit a double and was brought home by Gordon Arakaki on a single. Guy Ruiz then hit a double, and Arakaki and Ruiz crossed the plate on a home run from Danny Smith.
Lihu‘e A’s retaliated with five runs in the same inning. Peter Rayno drew a walk and Tomoo Hiranaka hit a single. Randy Tomlinson then hit a single sending Rayno home. Bruddah Rittmeister then hit a single to left field scoring Hiranaka and on an outfielder error Tomlinson also scored.
Ernest Domingo then drew a walk and with two K-Makule errors on the next two batters, Rittmeister and Domingo scored to give the Lihu‘e A’s 5 and K-Makule 4 after one complete inning.
The next single run was scored by the A’s in the bottom of the fourth inning when Peter Rayno hit a single to third scoring Ismo Yoshishige who had gotten on with a single to left field. After five complete innings the score was Lihu‘e A’s 6, K-Makule 4.
In the top of the fifth inning, K-Makule came up with four runs on seven base hit singles. Lefty Remata hit a single to right, followed by Arakaki with a grounder past the short stop pushing Remata to third. Guy Ruiz then hit a long drive to center field scoring Remata. Danny Smith followed suit with a long ball to center scoring Arakaki. Doric Remata came up with a hit to left and Ruiz and Smith pushed themselves to home.
For the first time, K-Makule went ahead of Lihu‘e A’s, 8 to 6.
In the top of the sixth inning, K-Makule widened the gap even more by scoring four more runs on a single from Arakaki, a double from Ruiz and a two run homer from Doric Remata.
Lihu‘e A’s also managed to come up with two runs in the sixth when Ismo Yoshishige hit a double to left and came home on a home run from Dwight Fujii. After six complete innings K-Makule had twelve runs and Lihu‘e A’s had eight.
In the seventh inning K-Makule came up with their three final runs on a double from Arakaki, a walk to Ruiz and a home run from John Taboniar. Randy Tomlinson hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh for the final Lihu‘e run.
Hitters for K-Makule were: Ali Otlang with 2 for 4, Guy Ruiz with 3 for 4 and a one home run, 4 for 5 for Arakaki, Herman Fraticelli, Danny Smith and Doric Remata with 3 for 5 plus and a home run and four RBIs for Smith and Remata.
The winning pitcher was Eddie Dela Cruz.
Hitters for the Lihu‘e A’s were: Hiranaka, Yoshishige and Fujii with 2 for 4 plus one home run for Fujii, 3 for 4 for Tomlinson plus one home run. The losing pitcher was Rittmeister.
