LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Cowboys wide receiver Diego Fernandez never layed a finger on a pigskin until last season, but after last night’s four touch-down peformance against the Kona Razorbacks, the rest of the Hawai‘i Football League will be wishing he’d stay away from the field.
The Cowboys crushed the Razorbacks, 36-0 and improved to 2-0 in the HFL.
Kaua‘i quarterback Drew Kamana‘o supplied the firepower along with Fernandez with TD’s of 30 and 35 yards in the first quarter and another 25 yard bomb late in the second quarter, which gave the undefeated squad a 22-0 halftime lead. Robbie McCain came up big on the defensive side with an interception, but as a whole, the Cowboy defensive unit played a brilliant game.
Luther Yam got into the endzone early in the fourth period, with a 45 yard interception return for the 28-0 lead.
Then Fernandez ended his night in spectacular fashion with a 60 yard fumble recovery touchdown return with just under five minutes to go.
The Cowboys are still looking for more players and if you’re interested in suiting up for Kaua‘i’s only semipro football team, contact Drew Kamana‘o at 652-8513.
