Karen Hamblin
Karen Helene Isaacson Hamblin died April 19, 2005, at her home after a long illness at the age of 60.
Born on Oct. 28, 1944, to Helen and Erick Isaacson in Olympia, Wash., she was the younger of two daughters.
Karen attended Santa Rosa Junior College where she met Kit Hamblin. They were married in 1963 and lived in Santa Rosa and San Francisco for a time before moving to Redding where they raised their three children.
In the 1980s Karen returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on finance from the California State University, Chico. Following graduation she worked as an accountant. Karen had a voracious appetite for knowledge and she devoured books, magazines and newspapers in her quest to keep up with world events and politics.
Karen was proud of her “Swede-Finn” heritage and in the 1980s fulfilled her lifelong ambition to visit her extended family, her parents’ home and various churches throughout Sweden and Finland.
On Jan. 8, 1993, Karen moved to Princeville, where she spent the next 11 years embracing the Hawaiian culture and sharing the Aloha spirit. She was an active member of the community and enjoyed working in Ching Young Center in Hanalei where she made many friends. For many years she was on the board of the Sandpiper Homeowners Association.
In June 2004, Karen returned to Redding with her beloved cats Mia, Moose and Ruby so that she could be closer to her family, including her two grandchildren.
Karen leaves behind sons Marc and Dale, daughter Sharon, grandchildren Amanda and Jared, niece Bibi and nephew Sean, great-nephew Donovan, cousin Bengt Isaksson, many cousins, aunts and uncles in Washington state, and friends all over the United States.
