Joseph Carveiro Jr., a resident of ‘Oma‘o, was arrested in relation to the kidnapping of a woman in Koloa Monday morning.
Carveiro, 56, was charged with two counts of kidnapping, violation of a temporary restraining order, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, fourth-degree criminal property damage, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest in relation to the incident, law enforcement officials said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, April 21.
According to police, the woman, who has not been identified but was known to the suspect, was pulled from her compact car in the middle of Ala Kinoiki (Koloa bypass road) in Koloa, and driven to a dirt road mauka of Kaumuali‘i Highway between the Tree Tunnel and Halfway Bridge (Knudsen’s Gap), at around 7 a.m. Monday, witnesses told The Garden Island.
According to police, when Carveiro was arrested, he caused a minor injury to a police officer.
A bystander, police officials said, saw the confrontation, notified police, and then followed the suspect’s car to the remote location. Other bystanders also called police, who responded with almost a half-dozen vehicles, witnesses said.
