A woman in serious pain was carried out of the Kipu Falls area by Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters Sunday afternoon.
The woman, described by fire officials as a 24-year-old Kaua‘i resident, suffered an apparent broken wrist, a six-inch laceration to her forehead, and complained of neck and back pain after hitting a submerged rock after jumping off the falls, KFD Administrative Battalion Chief Theodore “Teddy” Williams said.
Professionals from the KFD Lihu‘e fire station (rescue 3 and engine 3) responded to the call, and carried the woman to safety in a Stokes litter, which helps immobilize the victim, via a lower trial, Williams added.
County officials did not release her name, and further information on the victim’s condition was unavailable yesterday.
Kipu Falls, a popular attraction for both residents and visitors, has been the site of numerous rescues in the past few years.
In 2003, a female visitor died after hitting her head on submerged rocks.
Last year, three male visitors had to be rescued via helicopter when a flash flood stranded them at the top of the falls at remote Kipu.
