The Lihu‘e A’s lost the first game of their double header against K-Makule. K-Makule was the first to score in the top of the first inning on a HR from Eddie Dela Cruz. In the second inning K-Makule chalked up two more runs on base hits from Stan Buduan, Yuki Shigeta and Herman Fraticelli with Shigeta and Fraticelli claiming an RBI each. Lihue fired right back in the bottom of the second and jumped ahead of K-Makule by scoring four runs on singles from Randy Tomlinson, Braddah Rittmeister, Glenn Akina and Russell Bardago topped by a double from Dwight Fujii. The score after two complete innings was K-Makule 3, Lihue A’s 4.
In the top of the third inning K-Makule took advantage of two Lihue errors and two back to back K-Makule hits from Gordon Arakaki and Guy Ruiz and pushed ahead of Lihue by two runs. Not to be out done, Lihue came back with two runs on a base hit from Tomoo Hiranaka and a SF from Braddah Rittmeister. After three complete innings the score was tied all.
In the top of the fourth inning K-Makule went ahead of Lihue by two more runs captured on a Lihue error, a double from Eddie Dela Cruz and a base hit from Arakaki. The score remained Lihue A’s 6, K-Makule 8 until the top of the seventh inning when K-Makule scored three more runs on a Lihue error and base hit singles from Guy Ruiz, Danny Smith and Stan Buduan. Lihue managed to come up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. First batter Bardago had a base hit single, followed with Ed Bales on a BB. Dwight Fujii then had a base single and the bases were loaded. Pete Rayno and Tomoo Hiranaka both had SF’s and scored the final two runs of the game.
Hitters for K-Makule were: Stan Buduan and Yuki Shigeta with 2 for 4, Guy Ruiz with 2 for 3, Arakaki and Eddie Dela Cruz with 3 for 4 + 1 HR for Dela Cruz. Winning pitcher was Eddie Dela Cruz.

Kuku’s Aces 8, Lihu‘e A’s 20
Lihu‘e won their second game of the day in this TKO six inning game. The Aces scored their first two runs in the top of the second inning on hits from Kaleo Furtado, Americo Morris and Pancho DeCosta. In the third inning the Aces struck again with three more runs on hits from Junior Ruiz, Stanley Rita, Solomon Reyes and a single HR from Ben Pescador. The Aces did not score again until the top of the fifth inning when Ale Lomosad got on with an error and second batter Pescador flies out followed by Junior Ruiz with a base single. Furtado flies out to left field, runners tag up and occupy second and third. Stanley Rita then hits a single and Junior Ruiz and Furtado both score. A fielders choice ends the inning. The Aces score their final run in the top of the sixth on base hits from Americo Morris and Pancho DeCosta with the RBI going to DeCosta. Hitters for Kuku’s Aces were: Junior Ruiz, Stanley Rita and Pancho DeCosta with 2 for 3. Losing pitcher was Stanley Rita.
First batter up for Lihue, Dwight Fujii, hit a single HR to start the game off with a bang. The next two batters flew out but the fourth batter Randy Tomlinson also hit a single HR for the second run of the inning. In the bottom of the second, Lihue scored five runs on three base hits, an error and a BB. Hits came from Ismo Yoshishige, John Ochoco and Peter Rayno. In the third inning Lihue kept on ticking with three more runs scored on base hits from Tomlinson, Rittmeister, Ernest Domingo, Glenn Akina, Ed Bales and Ochoco.
In the fourth inning start off batter Fujii gets a single and comes home on a HR from Peter Rayno. After four complete innings the score is Kuku’s Aces 5, Lihue A’s 12.
The fifth inning brought on six runs for Lihue on base hits from Akina, Bales, Ochoco, Rayno, Hiranaka, Tomlinson and Domingo with a HR from Bardago. The final two Lihue runs was added on in the bottom of the sixth on base hits from Domingo, Herb Honjo, Bales and Ochoco. Hitters for Lihue were: Fujii, Rittmeister and Domingo with 2 for 4, Akina with 2 for 3, Bales with 3 for 3, Rayno with 3 for 4 plus 1 HR plus 6 RBI’s, Tomlinson and Ochoco with 4 for 4. East Kaua‘i 8, West Kaua‘i 17
With two outs in the top of the first inning Alex Youn gets to second base on a West Kauai error. Rick Ramones drives a ball out to center field for a base hit and scores Youn. Dickie Koerte gets a single and Al Salvador gets a hit up center and scores both Ramones and Koerte. Ronnie Holt gets a triple and scores Salvador. Run number 5 came in the top of the second due to a West Kauai error and a hit from Youn. In the third inning Youn gets on with a single and goes to second on a fielders choice and scores on a West Kauai error. In the fourth, Youn gets a double and scores on a SF hit by Ramones. The final run came in the top of the seventh on hits form Night Owl, Ray Sam Fong and Donald Boro. Hitters for East Kauai were: Salvador and Ronnie Holt with 2 for 3, Youn with 2 for 4, and Boro with 3 for 4. Losing pitcher was Ronnie Holt.
West Kauai was one run down in the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs on hits from Bob Merkle and Frank Bukoski, a sacrifice fly from Junior Rivera and a East Kauai error. In the bottom of the third inning West Kauai scored two runs shortening the gap East Kauai 6, West Kauai 5. In the fourth West Kauai went ahead of East Kauai 10-6. Pat Pavao got a beautiful base single to right field followed by John Patt with a double. With runners on second and third Maxie Moreno places a ball to right and scores Pavao. Bobbie Rita follows with a single to center field and in comes Patt. The next batter two batters are out, but Frank Bukoski nails a HR for a three run homer.
In the bottom of the sixth inning West Kauai scores six runs and just about closes the door on East Kauai. First batter up Maxie Moreno gets on with a East Kauai error and courtesy runner John Patt takes the bag. Bobby Rita gets a single. The next two batters fly out but Frank Bukoski does a rerun and nails another HR for three RBI’s.
Follow-up batter Larry Ephan hits a triple to right field and scores on a single from Junior Rivera. The next two East Kauai errors scores Rivera. Hitters for West Kauai were: Pat Pavao with 2 for 4, Larry Ephan and Bobby Rita with 2 for 3 and Frank Bukoski with 4 for 4 plus two HR’s and six RBI’s. Winning pitcher was Junior Rivera.
Rookies 21, Kawaihau 3
The Rookies again was dominant with their eighth win in the first round suffering their only loss previously against K-Makule. The Rookies scored four runs in the first inning. Hank Nishikawa got on with an error and Stan Dela Cruz placed a hit to right field. Mike Folster got a single and scored Nishikawa. With two runners on Archie Fontanilla gets a clean HR and three RBI’s. In the third inning the score for the Rookies becomes 6 as Stan Dela Cruz, Mike Folster, Wayne Hashimoto and Richard Vidinha all get base hits with Dela Cruz scoring on an error and Hashimoto with a single RBI.
The fourth inning brought on 7 runs. Wally Sonoda get a single followed by an out to Walter Souza. Hank Nishikawa, Stan Dela Cruz and Mike Folster all get base hits with single RBI’s to Dela Cruz and Folster.
Fontanilla draws a BB and Ray Espino hits a triple bringing in three runs.The next batter flies out but Wayne Hashimoto gets a single to center field with Richard Vidinha with a single to left. Charlie Carveiro brings in run number 7 of the inning and run 13 of the game. Folster brings in run number 14 in the top of the fifth inning with a HR. In the top of the seventh inning it was seven runs again with hits from Manuel Pacheco, Vidinha, Nobu Munechika, Folster, Fontanilla, and Ichi Chiba with RBI’s to Vidinha, Munechika, Folster, and Fontanilla with doubles to Folster, Vidinha and Munechika. Hitters for the Rookies were: Munechika with 2 for 2, Fontanilla with 2 for 4 plus 1 HR and four RBI’s, Dela Cruz and Hashimoto with 3 for 3, Vidinha with 3 for 4 and Folster with 5 for 5 plus 1 HR and 4 RBI’s. Winning pitcher was Archie Fontanilla.
Kawaihau managed to score just three runs in the game, two in the fifth inning on hits from Bob Herrmann, Paul Gusman, George Fernandes and Milton Hiranaka with the RBI’s credited to Hiranaka. A single run scored in the sixth inning on a Rookies error. Hitters for Kawaihau were: Milton Hiranaka with 2 for 2, Bob Herrmann with 2 for 3.
