Kaiola Canoe Club was the first across the finish line with their Mixed crew, and continued by taking three first place finishes in the 36th Annual Prince Kuhio Long Distance Races hosted by the Garden Island Canoe Racing Association, Saturday.
Kaiola Canoe Club was the first across the finish line with their Mixed crew, and continued by taking three first place finishes in the 36th Annual Prince Kuhio Long Distance Races hosted by the Garden Island Canoe Racing Association, Saturday.
Frank Hauata, Chris Coscarella, Marshall Celestino, Patricia Pacanas, Cheryl Lum, and Claudia Vernon made up the victorious Kaiola Mixed crew that came across at 54:03, followed by second place finisher Na Kai Ewalu, and third place Kaiola #2.
Robin Jumper, Melissa Hall, Mavis Aium Sanoe Hookano, Fran Acoba, and Katy Otsuji made up the Kaiola Women’s crew that topped that division with a 55:41 finish over second place Namolokama (57:29) and Niumalu (58.46).
Kaiola also topped the Sr. Men Master Division with a 1:09:56 finish with the crew of Philip Morgan, Andrew Reich, Michael McHenry, Mark Baird, Tom Christy, and Ricky Ham Young.
Anuenue finished at 1:13:46 for second place in that division with Kawaihae taking third at 1:20:14.
Namolokama finished with two first finishes in the race, their first one coming in the Men Open division on a 1:03:02 finish with the crew consisting of Mark Frazier, Butch Keahiolalo, Eric Rafter, Jeff Weiss, Hipolito Princena, and Paul Frazier.
Second place in that division went to Puuwai who finished at 1:05:51, and Kawaihae claimed third place at 1:09:16.
Gene Lopez, Mick Callahan, Tim Stokesbary, Tom Thompson, Earl Simpson, and Lance Laney piloted the Masters crew to Namolokama’s second first finish with a 1:09:53 finish.
Second place in the Masters division went to Puuwai who finished at 1:12:51, and Kaiola taking third on 1:13:35.
Puuwai Canoe Club rounded out the day with a first finish in the Women Master division with Susan Hoerner, Nancy Graff, Puanani Carvalho, Lei Alapa, Barbara Bradish, and Mary Pixler pushing the canoe across the line at 1:04:04 for the first place.
Puuwai also took the second place in that division at 1:06:42.
