PO‘IPU — Kaua‘i High School continued its dominance in KIF tennis this past Saturday at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts. The Red Raiders’ latest victim, Kapa‘a High School, wasn’t able to muster up a single victory in the five matches that counted for points (two singles, three doubles).
Meanwhile, the rain postponed the Island School/Kula School tennis matches at the Hanalei Bay Resorts Tennis Courts.
According to Kula coach Eddie Abubo, the matches will be rescheduled, but a date hasn’t been set yet.
Kaua‘i’s Jordan Kukino had his way once again, against Kapa‘a’s Kia Tom in the boys first singles match, 6-3, 6-0. Kukino remains undefeated in 2005.
In second singles action, Paris Mackey took three sets to dismantle Kapa‘a’s Bryson Toda, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. The first doubles duo of James Odan and Chad Naganuma of Kaua‘i dominated Taylor Alfiler and Cory Napoleon, 6-1, 6-2.
Michael Hirahara and Steve McClaren ousted Kapa‘a’s Chris Ramelb and Danny Rodrick, 6-0, 7-6 (6). In the third doubles match, Kaua‘i’s Reyn Balocan and J.L. Vento cruised past Travis Wakayama and Angel Hernandez, 6-1, 6-2.
On the girls side of the bracket, Kaua‘i’s Alex Sirois remained undefeated with a victory over Shawna Tamayose, 6-1, 6-2 in a first singles match. Red Raider Lezlie Tao also kept her record unblemished, as she defeated Crystine Ito, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles action, Cassidy Sirois, the younger sister of Alex, along with Megan Vento, climbed past Kapa‘a’s Tasha Haraguchi and Kelli Okamoto, 7-5, 6-1.
Jaymee Wakumoto and Tati Zina overmatched Kapa‘a’s Mariko Asano and Steph Kawamura, 6-3, 6-3. In the third doubles match, Kaua‘i’s Chelsea Yamase and Amanda Savage outhustled Christine Lane and Lauren Esaki, 6-3, 6-2.
KIF tennis bounces its way to the Hanapepe Tennis Courts this Saturday with Waimea hosting Kula School. Kaua‘i and Island School will tangle at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts. Both matches will commence at 12 p.m.
