KALAHEO — The East-side outgunned Kalaheo, 30-21 in the second half, but the effort fell a digit short as the clock ran out on the valiant Kapa‘a comeback attempt.
Elijah Phillips hit a critical pair from threepointland in the final stanza, but Eastside ran out of time, Kalaheo leaving the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center with a 40-39 win that came on the combined firepower of Tyrus Ceria-Lux and Keelan Sakuda who combined for 29 points.
Phillips finished the contest with a game-high 24 points in the showing.
Devin Saiki added seven second-half markers, Korey Pang added a trey in the fourth frame, but was left empty outside the arc in the following stanza as no one found him.
A pair from Kyle Van Buskirk rounded out the Eastside scoring.
Ceria-Lux led the Kalaheo effort with 15 points followed by Sakuda’s 14 marks.
Devin Tavana added five points and a lot of value in controlling the paint with Sean Inouye rounding out the effort with a pair.
Ceria-Lux paced the Kalaheo effort in the second half, notching nine of his game-total in three frames, and led the Kalaheo final stanza, but could not crack the insurance shots at the charity stripe to keep the Eastside within striking distance as the clock ticked down.
Peyton Navarro chalked up 10 points to lead Waimea to a 41-29 showing over the Lihu‘e “S” in the finale, the westside boys showing quickness and passing over Lihu‘e as both teams battled for turnovers.
Teila Huni paced the Lihu‘e effort with 10 points.
In the evening’s opener, Jin Wu chalked up 11 points with Davin Chong adding 10 points to pace the Wailua #2 win over the Gee Unit, 35-29.
Aric Casino topped the Gee scoring with nine points.
