The University of Hawai‘i’s Amy Sanders was named to the all-WAC Second Team following a vote of the WAC head coaches in the Western Athletic Conference’s all-WAC team selections.
The first team has one repeat performer from last year with Tulsa’s Jillian Robbins making her second appearance on the all-WAC first team in as many years. Louisiana Tech junior Tasha Crain makes her first appearance on the all-WAC team. Crain was also named the WAC Player of the Year.
Crain gave the Lady Techsters their fourth Player of Year honor in as many seasons, Amisha Carter earning the honor last season, and Cheryl Ford earning back-to-back honors.
Three different schools round out the first team with SMU freshman Janielle Dodds earning honors after a stellar rookie campaign. Dodds was fourth in league game scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.2 rpg). Fresno State junior Amy Parrish was also a first team selection, ending the season third in WAC games in scoring (16.4 ppg). San Jose State’s Lamisha Augustine earns her first all-WAC honor after averaging 8.3 rpg and 15.2 ppg.
Second teamers include Sanders, Lakiste Baruks, Louisiana Tech; Amber Jackson, San Jose State; Lauren Neaves, Rice; and Michelle Woods, Rice.
Dodds and Jackson were all-WAC freshman honorees, and Rice’s Cristy McKinney captured her first Coach of the Year award, leading the Lady Owls to a 14-4 league record and an overall record of 21-8. McKinney is in her 13th season.
