New sports calendar looking for entries
A new Kaua‘i sports calendar will be created in the coming weeks, to be published in The Garden Island Scoreboard section on page B2.
To have a sporting event published in the calendar, just pass along the time, date, location, and other pertinent information to Sports Editor Duane Shimogawa as soon as possible, and well in advance of the event.
E-mail the information to kauaisports@pulitzer.net, call 245-3681 ext. 257, fax 245-5286, mail it in to 3-3137 Kuhio Hwy., Lihu‘e, HI, 96766, or just drop off the information about the sporting event to The Garden Island office, next to Oki Diner on Kuhio Highway in Lihu‘e.
Koloa, Kalaheo Pop Warner registration
Koloa-Kalaheo Pop Warner is accepting applications for Tackle & Cheer coaches, Tackle and cheer coordinators, & team business managers for the upcoming football season. Applicants may call Sean Andrade at 635-3558. Applications will be accepted until March 18.
K-PAL football, cheer registration in April
There will be Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL) Flag Football & Cheerleading Registration Signups for the Lihu‘e Area on April 4th, 6th, 11th, and 13th, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Isenberg Park. Eligible players age 4-6 Cubs Division, age 7-9 Bobcats Division, and age 10-12 Wildcats Division.
Applications may be picked up and completed during Registration dates. For all new players, parents must bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate and an updated medical card at time of registration.

Lihu‘e Pop Warner fundraiser
Lihu’e will host its first annual Spring Festival, hosted by Lihu’e Pop Warner Association, on May 6th, 7th, and 8th.
They are looking for interested craft vendors for their craft booth sale and Kaua‘i’s talented keiki, ages 6-15, for the first annual Lihu’e stars talent contest. For more information or to pick up an application, call 246-4808.
Kawaihau Little League registration
The Kawaihau Community Little League is now having registration for its majors baseball season for players the ages of 10-12 years old.
Registration fee is $40 and applications can be picked up and turned in at the food booth at the Kapa‘a New Town Ballpark, every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications are also available at Pono Market.
Returning players must have their registration forms turned in by March 24, all others by March 30.
Mandatory tryouts for new players will be held on March 29-30 at 4 p.m. at the Kapa‘a New Town Ballpark. For more information, call president Shaylene Iseri-Carvalho at 651-8134.
Martial arts tournament
There will be a mixed martial arts tournament on March 19 at Kapa‘a High School’s Gym, starting at 6 p.m. For fighting or ticket information, contact Randy Ortiz at 482-0334 or Vance Pascua at 335-3338. All styles welcomed.
Hawaii 12, Louisiana-Lafayette 1
HONOLULU — Four Rainbows had two RBIs apiece as Hawaii bested Louisiana-Lafayette 12-1 Saturday night in the final game of the Rainbow Baseball Tournament.
The ‘Bows improved to 9-8 on the season while going 2-3 in the round-robin tourney.
The Ragin’ Cajuns (14-1) clinched the tournament title Friday with a victory over Wichita State. Both finished with a 4-1 tournament record.
UH starter Justin Costi pitched eight innings to pick up his first victory of the season against two losses.
