KALAHEO — In front of a sizeable crowd at Kalaheo Gym on Saturday, Lihu‘e “S” managed to out battle the Westside Hornets, 43-37 in the County of Kaua‘i’s boys 14-and-under winter basketball league.
Silas “T-bone” Tacsiat, whose cousin Nikko stars for the KIF champion Kaua‘i High School junior varsity squad, made his older relative proud with 14 big points in the victory over the westside squad coached by Antonio Pope.
Kekoa Prem led the Hornets’ charge with 10 markers. But Lihu‘e’s Lance Delos Reyes proved to be too tough on the defensive end, stopping many Hornets’ attempts at the rim.
Earlier in the day, Kyle Van Buskirk’s 11 points, led Eastside over Wailua #1, 33-24. Niko Kimura had the hot hand for Wailua with 10 points.
In game three, Keelan Sakuda, who was a force on the Waimea High School junior varsity squad, led his Kalaheo squad with 18 points in the 50-28 triumph over Kilauea. Stevie Lutz added five for the northshore squad.
In the final contest of the day, Jeremy “Mr.” Robinson put up the biggest numbers of the game with 11 points, which led all scorers in the 37-19 win over Gee Unit.
Aric Casino’s nine points led the Gee Unit squad.
