A beachfront coconut grove owned Kaua‘i’s Niu Pia Land Co. Ltd. slated to become a resort condominium by is project.
New York City-based Brickman Assoicates, doing business as Coconut Plantation Holdings LLC, purchased the parcel for $11 million.
The land is zoned for up to 195 condo units, but a spokesperson for Brickman said as much open space, and as many coconut trees as possible, would be preserved.
The parcel is located adjacent to the former Kauai Coconut Beach Hotel, which is now a newly-reopend 200-unit Courtyard by Marriott property.
Announcement of the sale is the latest in a surge in buying and development along what’s known as the Coconut Coast, an area stretching from Wailua north to Kapa‘a. Other major projects planned include a rebuilding of the Coco Palms Resort, a once widely popular visitor destination that has been closed since Hurricane ‘Iniki hit Kaua‘i in 1992.
