Police are continuing to search for a suspected dealer of crystal methamphetamine after they lost him in the mountains off Kahuna Road in Kapa‘a following a vehicle chase earlier this week.
Witnesses reported no fewer than eight Kaua‘i Police Department patrol vehicles giving chase early Tuesday morning.
Ron Venneman, KPD deputy chief, did not release the wanted person’s name, but said he is a wanted felony drug suspect who earlier fled the scene of a large drug bust. “He’s a trafficker of methamphetamine who we have a felony warrant for.”
Venneman said the man eluded police in his vehicle on a hiking trail, and said the vehicle was not recovered.
A vehicle stuck in the mud on the trail may or may not be the suspect’s vehicle. A police vehicle also got stuck in the mud while giving chase, Venneman said.
Police returned at daybreak to resume the search Tuesday morning, but the man was still at large as of yesterday afternoon, he said.
