Youths get rare experience Sasan sparks the Maniacs
Scot Sasan had the hot hand for Lihu‘e with his 13 big points in the 39-13 win over G-Unit B on Feb. 7 at Kalaheo Gym in the County’s boys 12-and-under basketball league. Cody Iwasaki netted six points in the win. Winston Gee and Bradley Heiseir paced G-Unit with eight and six points each.
In game two, C-Town beat the Kaua‘i Fire Raiders, 30-21. Kainoa and Kekoa Colipano combined for 13 points. John Das and Travis Koga led Kaua‘i with eight and seven points each.
C-Town continued to win as Nico Chow’s 11 points was enough for the 44-31 win over G-Unit B. Kekoa Colipano contributed with 10 points in the win. Winston Gee and Dalton Thronas put up nine points apiece in the loss.
Kaua‘i horseshoe teams host event
Seven teams from Hanalei and Anahola competed in a mini 3-person team event on Kaua‘i, squaring off into one division and contending for top honors.
After a playoff for 1st-place, the team of Wayne VerHaagh of Anahola Horseshoe Club with Howard Kamoku, Sr. and Danny Denny of Kapa‘a won with a 15-6 record with a combined team ringer average of 26.98
Claiming 2nd-place with a 12-9 record and a combined ringer average of 22.86as Ana-hola’s team of Wyatt Kamoku, James “Kimo” Reis, and Old Timer and former state senior champion Joseph Koko, of Ana-hola Horseshoe Club.
Governing 3rd-place; North Shore’s Kim Lindstdt, Randy Poor, and newcomer Paige Allen Lindstdt of Hanalei Horse-shoe Pitchers. The team headed by Kim ended the day with a 10-8 record and a combined ringer average of 20.59
UH loses at the charity stripe
RUSTON, La. — Paul Millsap sank a free throw with 0.4 seconds remaining to give Louisiana Tech a 71-70 victory over Hawai‘i Thursday night.
Millsap finished with a game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds to help the Bulldogs (12-9, 7-5 Western Athletic) to their fifth win in the past six games.
Wayne Powell added 18 points for Tech and Donell Allick had 13. Powell also had 10 rebounds. Hawai‘i (13-6, 5-6) was led by Jake Sottos’ 23 points. Matt Gibson had 15 and Jeff Blackett added 10. Tech had a 41-31 halftime lead before Sottos’ outside shooting — he hit on five 3-pointers — helped bring the Rainbow Warriors back in the final half. Hawai‘i had a 70-65 lead with 2:08 remaining before the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to close out the game.
Kaua‘i senior golf tournament
The first quarterly Kaua‘i Senior Golf Club Tournament for 2005 will be held, Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Wailua Golf Course. Feb. 2005 handicaps will be used and entry blanks are available at the Wailua Golf Course. Golfers 55-and-over are encouraged to come and enjoy the game with friends.
Rainbow baseball game moved
The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball game against Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 19, will be moved to 5:30 p.m., to accommodate the UH men’s basketball “Bracket Buster” game, which has been moved to 3 p.m. that day.
UH has created a special Bracket Buster Doubleheader Promotion, allowing fans to redeem their ticket stub from the Wisconsin-Milwaukie men’s basketball game for a free ticket to the baseball game against Pacific on Feb. 19, which begins at 5:30 p.m. The Rainbow Warrior basketball team will host Wisconsin-Milwaukie for the “ESPN Bracket Buster,” which will be televised live on ESPN2.
Hilo stays hot with win over Mustangs
