The men and women of Kaua‘i serving in Iraq are to be honored in a special Valentine’s Day issue of The Garden Island.
A special section of the Monday, Feb. 14 issue titled “With Love from Kaua‘i” is to be filled with personal accounts of serving in Iraq, supportive comments from the soldiers’ families and other community leaders, along with stories of families with loved ones in Iraq that tell what this separation is like, and how it has affected their lives.
The Garden Island hopes to air mail this special edition to our service people currently serving in Iraq. It is hoped the arrival of a newspaper from home will help the Kaua‘i ohana stationed there overcome homesicknesses, and give them a chance to sit down and read news of their hometown, plus feel touched by the messages from their friends and loved ones back home.
The Garden Island is seeking names of Kaua‘i residents serving in Iraq so the special issue can be sent to them. Anyone wishing to have a copy sent, or who is willing to share how their deployment has affected their family, should send an e-mail to ccook@pulitzer.net, drop the address off at the front desk of The Garden Island.
The deadline for having the serviceperson’s address added to the mailing list is today, Thursday, Feb. 10.
