WAIMEA – There is a lot at stake when the Waimea High School Menehune host the Kaua‘i Red Raiders tonight at the Clem Gomes Gym in their last home game.
The Raiders, in spite of their convincing victory over the Kapa‘a Warriors Friday night at home, are still seeking to clinch the KIF title with a win over Waimea.
The Friday night victory insured that the worst the Raiders could do is clinch a tie for the second round title, but a win over Waimea would give them the second round title, and thus the KIF crown, Kaua‘i earlier locking up the first round title.
For the coaches Montemayors, there is still the bittersweet taste of a defeat by close to 30 points in their last encounter, something they would like to sweeten.
For coach Brandon Fujita, the boys need to continue and do the job on the court. A KIF title Tuesday night would be sweet, but there is still the prospect of the HHSAA state field to contend with – something the Raiders are familiar with as some of their key players have had a lot of playing time on O‘ahu, before and during the preseason games.
And, if that is not enough to whet your hoops appetite, there is the Kaua‘i JV squad who, despite enjoying a 12-point lead over Kapa‘a, Friday, finished in the deficit column at the buzzer.
Tip off for the JV game is 5:30 p.m. in Waimea.
