West Kaua‘i 11, Rookies 15
West Kaua‘i succumbed to the Rookies in a seven inning 11 to 15 game. The Rookies started with a bang in the first inning with four runs, three more added on in the second inning a single in the third and two in the fifth.
West Kaua‘i started off slow with just a single in the first inning and did not score again until the fifth inning with seven runs. At the end of eight, the Rookies had 10, West Kaua‘i had 8. The Rookies showed they were unstoppable by scoring four more runs in the sixth inning and the final run in the seventh. West Kaua‘i made a valiant effort towards a comeback in the seventh inning but could only shorten the game with three runs.
Hitters for the Rookies were: Walter Souza and Ichi Chiba with 2 for 3, Hank Nishikawa with 3 for 4, Raymond Espino with 3 for 5, W. Hashimoto with 4 for 5, and Archie Fontanilla with 5 for 5. Winning pitcher was Fontanillla.
Hitters for West Kaua‘i were: Bernard Mahuiki, Boni Garma, Maxie Moreno with 2 for 3, Frank Bukoski with 2 for 4. Losing Pitcher was Junior Riviera.
West Kaua‘i 8, KMakule 10
In a give and take game KMakule proved the dominant team this time up with their win over West Kaua‘i. West Kaua‘i scored their first run in the first inning and KMakule retaliated by scoring two of their own in the second inning.
West Kaua‘i came back swinging and placed two more runs on their side of the score board in the second inning and a single run in the third inning making the score West Kaua‘i 3, KMakule 2, after four innings. In the top of the fifth inning KMakule came up with four runs but West Kaua‘i came back with four of their own. After five innings the score was West Kaua‘i 8, KMakule 6. In the sixth inning KMakule scored 2 runs creating a tie.
The two jump ahead runs for KMakule came in the seventh inning. West Kaua‘i could not manage to score.
Hitters for KMakule were: Lefty Remata and Gordon Ara kaki with 2 for 4, Guy Ruiz, Dado Paiste and Ali Otland with 2 for 3, and Doric Remata with 3 for 4. Guy Ruiz also had a solo HR. Winning pitcher was Dado Paiste.
Hitters for West Kaua‘i were: Larry Ephan, Pat Pavao, and Bernard Mahuiki with 2 for 4. Ephan had a solo HR. Losing pitcher for West Kaua‘i was Ben Aranio.
Kawaihau 7, East Kaua‘i 19
East Kaua‘i plowed over Kawaihau in a 7 to 19 win. East Kaua‘i chalked up the regulation 7 runs in the first inning and continued to score additional runs in all but the second and sixth innings.
It was a struggle for Kawaihau who managed two runs in the first inning and singles in the fourth and fifth inning. Their final three runs came in the sixth inning off singles from Cassier, IIda, Guzman, Hermann, and Lucas. Hitters for Kawaihau were: Jack Lucas with 2 for 3, Pat Cassier and Sherwood IIda with 3 for 3. Losing pitcher was Teddy Daligdig.
Hitters for East Kaua‘i were: Dickie Koerte, Rick Ramones, Ronnie Holt and Al Salvador with 3 for 4. Ramones had a HR with 3 RBI’s. Winning pitcher was Ronnie Holt.
Kuku’s Aces 2, Lihu‘e A’s 10
The Aces put up a great try, fielding 13 players in a seven inning game.
The Aces managed to come up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of hits from Gordon Doo, Junior Ruiz and Sol Reyes. Doo hit 2 for 3 in the game. Losing pitcher was Tada Hashimoto.
Lihu‘e A’s scored first with two runs in the second inning, four in the third, a single in the fourth and three in the fifth. Hitters for Lihu‘e were: Dwight Fujii, Bruddah Reittmeister with 2 for 4, Roy Running with 3 for 4, and Ernest Domingo with 2 or 3. Winning pitcher was Joe Brun.
