Leaders at the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association recently honored Wesley Moribe from the engineering department of the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort near Hanama‘ulu. Moribe was second in the category of overall lodging employee of the year for 2004. He competed against thousands of qualified individuals across the entire state, his managers said.
Finalists were judged by the contributions to their company as well as their community.
A luncheon was held earlier this month, where more than 1,000 hotel and hospitality professionals gathered at the Sheraton Waikiki to recognize outstanding employees. Moribe was acknowledged for his commitment to the care of the water features and wildlife at the resort, and also for his community involvement as a foster parent of 23 children during the last eight years.
Last year, he and his wife were honored for their contributions to the Kauai Food Bank, providing fresh vegetables from his small farm, and raising more than $1,000 for the Toys for Tots program at his son’s college’s annual drive.
During the competition, the support of Radisson Kauai Beach Resort staff members, as well as Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste, spurred him on, Moribe said.
