Ken Dubas of Salinas, Cali-fornia carded a hole-in-one at the Puakea Golf Course’s sixth hole (148 yards), while using a Titleist 6-Iron on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Ann Dubas witnessed Ken’s special moment at Puakea.
UH baseball tickets on sale
Season tickets for the 2005 UH Rainbow baseball season are on sale now. Tickets in the blue and orange sections will be sold for $185. Adult tickets in the red are $145, while senior citizen, UH student, and student age 4-18 tickets are $120. They can be purchased online at ha-waiiathletics.com or by phone at (808) 944-2697. The UH baseball season opens Feb. 10, when the Rainbows host the Alabama Crimson Tide for a four-game series.
Pu‘uwai Canoe Club meeting
This Saturday Jan. 29, the Pu‘uwai Canoe Club will be having its annual meeting and election at 2 p.m. and blessing of new canoes, club, and paddlers at 3 p.m., followed by a potluck.
Women’s practice officially begins Monday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m., men’s practice begins Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Yasay, Kavanagh pace Hanamaulu
Paleku Yasay and Patrick Kavanagh each scored 11 points to lead Hanamaulu over G-Unit A, 55-15 Monday night at Kala-heo Gym in the County’s boys 12-and-under winter basketball league.
Donovan Harrison and Kawi-ka Bandman put up six points apiece for G-Unit.
G-Unit B routed Kaua‘i Fire Raiders in the second game, 52-9, behind Winston Gee’s 20 markers. Brian Haz led Kaua‘i with four points.
C-Town smashed Kalaheo, 41-27 in game three with Austin James-Simao scoring 15 for the winners. Anthony Irek and Co-rey McDown combined for 13 points for Kalaheo.
All-girls rodeo this Sunday
The Kaua‘i All-Girls Rodeo Association invites everyone to enjoy the action at their first rodeo of the season, beginning at 10 a.m. at CJM Stables (about a mile past the Hyatt down Po‘ipu Road). Admission is free and you can catch the island’s top cowgirls competing in fast-paced rodeo events, including barrel racing, pole bending, steer undecorating, team rop-ing, goat tying, and break-a-way roping. There will also be a lunch wagon and shaved ice stands, so bring your appetites. For more information, call Linda at 742-7595.
Kaua‘i senior golf tourney
The first quarterly Kaua‘i Se-nior Golf Club Tournament for 2005 will be held, Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Wailua Golf Course. Feb. 2005 handicaps will be used and entry blanks are available at the Wailua Golf Course. Golf-ers 55-and-over are encouraged to come and enjoy the game with friends.
Mayor’s youth fishing program
The County of Kaua‘i Recre-ational Agency welcomes all youths 8-18, both boys and girls to the Mayor’s Drug Free Fish-ing Program.
This program is free of charge and will be conducted at the Hanapepe Neighborhood Center. To be a part of this spe-cial program, you must register at Hanapepe Neighborhood Cen-ter and attend the first session on Monday, Jan. 31. They also have a special fishing outing at Koke‘e on Friday, Feb. 18.
Classes will be held, Mondays, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, and Feb. 14 and will be at the Hanapepe Neigh-borhood Center. Each class will go from 7-9 p.m. All materials and fishing gear will be supplied free of charge. The only require-ment will be to complete the program.
