LIHU‘E – About two dozen pro-life advocates gathered to maintain a silent vigil to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the Rowe vs. Wade decision, Saturday.
Normally, the group holds a monthly vigil at the intersection of Kuhio Hwy and Eha Street in Lihu‘e, but in commemoration of the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, the group met Saturday said Lillian Lucas, one of the organizers of the Saturday vigil.
“We invited other groups, but this is all that came,” Lucas said. “But, it’s a lot more people than attend the monthly vigil.”
The Rev. Rene “Biz” Bisaillon, Associate Pastor of the Missionary of Our Lady of La Salette, said he was on O‘ahu yesterday where they held their commemorative vigil, but said he wanted to be here where the vigil falls on the date of the 1973 court decision, Jan. 22. The group, standing on both sides of Kuhio Hwy was scheduled to maintain their vigil between 9 and 10 a.m., Saturday. They were greeted by honks of support from passing motorists.
