In their first matchup of the season, the Menehune edged a tough Warrior charge in a 49-43 win at the Bernice Hundley Gymnasium.
This time, Kapa‘a will face the Menehune on their home floor at the Clem Gomes Gymnasium tonight, with JV action starting at 5:30 p.m. The varsity contest starts 20 minutes after the completion of the JV game.
Waimea’s Chad Barba had his best game so far this season with 16 points to lead the Menehune.
Also helping out the Waimea cause was Aaron Hesapene, who sealed the first win against Kapa‘a with crucial free-throw makes at the end of the contest.
For Kapa‘a to get its first win of the season, they will need big games from guards, Kaylan Dolor and Greg Ragsac. They combined for only nine points in the first matchup, but Dolor seems to be finding his touch, after a good showing against the Red Raiders, with 15 points, which included three trifectas. Kapa‘a big man Amini Ta‘ufo‘ou will also be counted on to supply the necessary muscle in the paint.
