Tonight’s KIF basketball matchup features one team looking to take a commanding lead in the standings and another trying to get that very first win of the season.
Kaua‘i High School travels to the Bernice Hundley Gymnasium tonight, with a chance to clinch a tie for the first round title against Kapa‘a High School.
The Red Raiders are 2-0 and the Warriors are 0-2, after a tough loss to Waimea on Tuesday night.
Kapa‘a has shown much needed improvement in its matchup with Waimea. Senior forward Amini Ta‘ufo‘ou will have the daunting task of keeping pace with Kaua‘i senior and KIF leading scorer Futi Tavana.
Ta‘ufo‘ou has the size and skill to bang with Tavana, but if the Warriors are to win tonight, they will have to count on solid play from their two guards, senior Kaylan Dolor, who can light it up from beyond the arc, and junior counterpart Greg Ragsac, who is a slasher with good shooting range.
The junior varsity kicks the festivities off at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity action 20 minutes later.
