Boys under 14 from all parts of the island are invited to try out today, Tuesday, Jan. 11, and this Thursday, Jan. 13, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, at the soccer field by Hanalei School, for a team forming to participate in the Kirk Banks tournament on O‘ahu.
The core of the team is expected to be boys who went through the American Youth Soccer Organization Region 941 (Wailua to Ha‘ena) season undefeated, capping that season with back-to-back wins to capture the Will Veeck tournament that pits champions from AYSO Region 941 and Region 940 (Lihu‘e to Barking Sands).
Coaching the squad will be Nan Greer, who played and coached college soccer, played semi-professional soccer, and continues to coach youth soccer on Kaua‘i. She is also forming a North Shore Hawaii Youth Soccer Association team for under-14 boys, and the tryouts will serve for both the HYSA and Kirk Banks teams.
For more information, please call Greer, 652-3189, or Jennifer Jackson, 828-1017.
