HANAPEPE — Chad Thompson and the Waimea High School boys varsity soccer squad battled to the end with Kaua‘i High School. Going into the contest, both teams were tied for first-place slot in the boys race, but after one Thompson goal in the second half, the Menehune rose to the top of the KIF boys soccer world with a 1-0 victory over the Red Raiders.
Thompson also increased his lead in KIF goals over Kapa‘a’s Masai Bell with four scores. Bell has two on the season.
The Kaua‘i High School girls varsity team denied Waimea of its first win of the season, while tying the Warriors for first-place with a 4-0 win over the Menehune.
Kristen Shim took over the lead in KIF goals with three against the Menehune. Shim leads the league with five goals. Auika Muragin also notched a goal for the Kaua‘i cause.
Teammates Megan Vento, Emma Makepa-Foley, and Muragin all have two goals, along with Kapa‘a’s Tiana Kunioka.
Keila Curtis, Kelly Morishige, and Clarissa Bulosan led the Red Raider girls’ JV squad to a 3-0 win over the Menehune.
Meanwhile, Kaua‘i smothered Waimea in boys JV action, 6-0, thanks to goals by Kyle Mira (2), Brendan Young (3), and Josiah Motosue.
