Get ready to lace up those shoes for the 22nd Annual Keiki Fun Run on January 15 at 8 a.m. You can still pick up applications for ages 2-16 at the YMCA office. You can also call them for more information at 246-9090. The cost is just $6.00
Awards and ribbons for winners of each group, T-shirts, prizes for all runners, refreshments, and a drawing for two bicycles will be provided. The race starts at 8 a.m. at Kilohana in Puhi. This event is sponsored by the East Kaua‘i Y’s Men’s Club and the YMCA of Kaua‘i.
Relay for Life softball tourney
The Second Annual Open Men’s Softball Tournament (Connie’s Fighters and Survivors) will take place at the Waimea Canyon School Ballpark from March 11-13. Entrance fee per team is $175. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Boys and Girls Club basketball league
The Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i Branch is beginning its 2005 Basketball League for youth ages 5-10 years old. This instructional league’s objectives are for the kids to have fun and take with them an enjoyable experience. Focus is on teaching each participant the fundamentals (e.g. shooting, passing, dribbling & defense). Emphasis is placed on teaching life long skills in social interaction, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Registration begins January 10 and ends January 28. The league is open to all girls and boys ages 5-10 years old. Registration is first come, first serve or when teams are full. Space is limited so register as soon as possible!
The league is divided into three age divisions: Mighty Mite (ages 5-6) ($25), Termite (ages 7-8) ($25), and Extreme Termite (ages 9-10) ($35). Eligibility is determined by participants’ age on December 31, 2004. Forms are available at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Kapaa & Waimea Clubhouses, Lihue Teen Center, Kalaheo, Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e Neighborhood Centers.
Volunteers are needed to coach teams and officiate games. Interested individuals can contact the Kapa‘a or Waimea Clubhouses. For information regarding the North Shore, please contact Bill Troutman at 828-2844.
