LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a opened up the 2005 with exciting, physical action at Vidinha Stadium last night. The Red Raider boys won in dramatic fashion late in the second half, 1-0 on a Brett Netzer goal.
Kaua‘i keeper Micah Young picked up his second shutout of the season.
With the victory, Kaua‘i moved into a first-place tie with Waimea at seven points a piece.
In the girls’ match, it was just as exciting with Rancee Wilson of Kapa‘a netting the only goal.
The 1-0 win gave the Warriors the first-place slot with 12 points, followed by Kaua‘i with nine points.
Warrior goalie Meagan Pablo was able to keep Kaua‘i off the scoreboard with a shutout.
Kapa‘a also learned earlier this week that they would take the three points from the postponed December 30th match against Waimea, in which they led 3-0 at the half.
Meanwhile, the boys game is still pending.
KIF soccer continues on Saturday with JV and varsity matches starting at 10 a.m. between Kaua‘i and Waimea at Vidinha.
