Four separate auto collisions occurred in different parts of the island during an 11-hour period between Friday night and Saturday morning, the Kaua‘i Police Department reported.
It is not known if anyone was injured in the accidents, but a police official said the risk for accidents has gone up with more holiday shoppers on the road and possibly eager to get to destinations.
Intermittent heavy rain also made for dangerous driving conditions at times over the weekend, with large puddles along Kuhio Highway at the Wailua Golf Course and elsewhere.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported due to the accidents. On the North Shore of O‘ahu a 23-year-old man died on Kamehameha Highway during this same time period.
Police reported the following accidents on Kaua‘i overnight:
- A traffic accident occurred on Apapane Street in Lihu‘e at 11:49 p.m. Friday;
- A traffic accident was rerouted at the Aloha Beach Resort at 1:22 a.m. Saturday;
- A traffic accident was reported in the Waipouli area in East Kaua‘i at 10: 30 a.m., Saturday;
- A traffic accident was reported in Kalaheo at 11 a.m., Saturday.
More rain is predicted by the National Weather Service for windward Kaua‘i today and tonight.
Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy with showers likely in the morning, Then partly cloudy with scattered showers in the afternoon with east winds10 to 15 mph.
